Perithecia immersed, scattered, flask-shaped, with ostioles slightly projecting, translucent, ca. 350 μm long, 120-150 μm in diam. Asci cylindrical, up to 150 μm long, 7.5-9 μm diam. Ascospores whole, blunt at the distal end, basally tapering to a tail, 80-100 μm long, 1-1.5 μm wide. In culture the colonies on PDA are slow-growing, attaining a diam. of 6 mm after 4 wk at 20°C. Colonies are brown; when old, the cultures produce reddish brown pigment around the colonies in the PDA. Sporulation begins after 4 wk from pycnidia. Hypocrella siamensis can be found throughout the year and all throughout Thailand. There are records from Doi Inthanon National Park in the far north to Ton Nga Chang Wildlife Sanctuary in the south.
